Homeless Shelter Supported by HOGS

Levittown, PA, November 14, 2007 – Local community members of the HOGS (Harley Owners Group) participated in American Red Cross Shelter Ride to benefit the American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter Homeless Shelter Services.

The HOGS donated over $1,400 in gift cards, which will be used toward supplies, clothing, medication and food throughout the year.  They also brought pillows and bedding linens for the shelter residents.

The shelter residents and HOGS enjoyed a wonderful meal that was donated by McCafferty’s Markets and Brian’s Harley Davidson.  All of the children had their picture taken on a motorcycle.  Some of the children were able to take a ride on a Harley.

“We could not operate the shelter without the dedication and support of organizations like the HOGS, Brian’s Harley Davidson in Langhorne and McCafferty’s Markets.  They have been assisting the shelter for the past 14 years and we could not thank them enough”, said Kristi Dennis, Director of Shelter Services.

You can support the American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter Homeless Shelter by supporting the Adopt-A-Family holiday program.   The goal of Adopt-A-Family is to provide gifts for Bucks County families in need.  An individual or Corporation can “Adopt” a family by buying gifts for the adopted family according to a wish list.  Another way to help is to make a wish list come true for a child staying at the shelter.  The children write letters to Santa or complete a wish list.  More information about either program is available by contacting Kristi Dennis at 215.946.4870 ext 112 or Kdennis@redcrosslbcc.org.

The American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter is where people mobilize to help their neighbors prepare for, prevent, and respond to life’s emergencies.  Governed by volunteers and supported by community donations, the American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter is dedicated to saving and improving lives.  Led by over 1,300 volunteers, the Red Cross annually mobilizes relief to over 700 disaster victims, trains almost 18,000 people in lifesaving skills, exchanges more than one hundred emergency messages for U.S. military service personnel and their families, and collects nearly 12,000 pints of blood for local hospitals.  The American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter also has the country’s only 24-hour homeless shelter that serves over 400 adults and children each year.  The Red Cross is the largest supplier of blood and blood products in the area and also assists victims of international disasters and conflicts at locations worldwide.
