Mealey’s Furniture and Red Cross Announce New Partnership

(Levittown, PA 7/2/2008) – The American Red Cross Lower Bucks County Chapter is honored to announce a new community partnership with Mealey’s Furniture to increase awareness and assistance to military families.  Mealey’s Furniture will be providing the local chapter with furniture and additional resources in the development of a Service to Military Families and Veterans Center.  This center will be operational 24-hrs a day to assist local families with emergency communications, financial assistance and other services.  The new Service to Military Families and Veterans Center is scheduled to be completed August 2008.

In addition, Mealey’s will be donating a portion of profits from every sale in July and August from its new store in Warminster, PA, host a collection drive at all its locations in September 2008 for service members recovering at the Walter Reed Medical Center, and partner with the Red Cross in its community outreach efforts over the next year.  “We are very excited to be part of this partnership with the American Red Cross and our family has always had a long commitment to service to the community.  We are proud to be part of this effort to reach out to those serving in the military and their families,” stated Kevin Mealey, President of Mealey’s Furniture.

The American Red Cross has had a longstanding commitment to those serving in the military and their families.  Each year the Lower Bucks County Chapter assists more than 150 families stay connected during family crisis.  Nationally the organization assists more than 100,000 families with emergency communications and other services.

One family the Chapter was able to assist this past February was the Emerson’s of Churchville, PA.  Harriette Emerson turned to the Red Cross to help bring her son, Stephen, home and delay deployment to IRAQ due to pending surgeries for both her husband and daughter.  While both faced life threatening health issues, the local chapter was able to work with the family’s medical team to help military officials make the necessary decision for the serviceman to be home.  Mrs. Emerson’s son was home for both surgeries and has subsequently been home during additional treatment for his father. “We are thankful that the Red Cross was there to support our family when we needed our son the most.  I do not know what I would have done had Stephen not been there,” stated Mrs. Emerson.  The Emerson family’s situation is like many of the emergencies the Red Cross tries to assist on a daily basis.  The chapter encourages other families to learn more about our Services to the Armed Forces and Veterans program.
