Real Hero

Sven Beauchmin, Morrisville, PA. Law Enforcement HeroThis Falls Township Police Officer saved the life of Mark Wassum, 20.  Wassum was picking parts at an auto salvage yard when the jacks holding up the vehicle failed and the car fell on top of him.  Wassum was able to call 911 before losing consciousness.  Using quick-thinking Officer Beauchmin utilized the open line, turned on his sirens and was able to find Wassum in less than 5 minutes.  Officer Beauchmin then administered emergency responder care.

John Buchanan and Gail McGowan, Levittown, PA.  Good Samaritan Heroes:  These Bucks County Courier Times carriers discovered a burning home while delivering papers.  They alerted the homeowners and neighbors in harms way and called 911.  Because of their vigilance a neighborhood community was saved from a potentially disastrous fire.

The Center for Independent Living of Bucks County, Langhorne, PACommunity Partner Hero:  This group saves lives by providing support, assistance and independent life skills to disabled residents of Bucks County.  They have helped over 13% of Lower Bucks County residents with referrals, counseling, advocacy and skills training

Scott Henley, Chalfont, PA. Medical Hero: As the first paramedic on an automobile accident scene, Scott assessed the condition of a 19-year-old young woman.  He determined that she had a tear in her lung, which was causing her chest cavity to fill with pressure.  In a gutsy, but life saving move, Scott inserted a two-inch long needle into her chest.

John Kenney, Quakertown, PA. Law Enforcement Hero:  Officer Kenney is a Northampton Township Police Officer. He saved a family who were inside their burning home.  Officer Kenney broke down the back door of the house, but was forced to exit due to extreme smoke and fire.  His persistence and determination led him to the front door where he found the family of three and their dog.

Kristi Komyanek, Langhorne, PA. Medical HeroWhile preparing for a pool party at her house, Kristi received a phone call about a drowning child in her neighborhood.  Kristi ran down the street, scooped the three-year-old up and preformed life saving rescue breathing.  Doctors believe the child would have had long-term damage if not for Kristi’s quick actions.

Kyle Miller, Fairless Hills, PA.  Good Samaritan Hero:  Kyle is an officer with the Bristol Township Police Department.  Kyle was dining with his wife at Pizzeria Uno’s one evening.  Tom Riley was also enjoying a night out when he suffered a ventricular fibrillation.  Doctor’s believe Tom was clinically dead when Kyle performed CPR.  Tom is enjoying time with his family due to Kyle’s quick actions.

Richard Newbert, Langhorne, PA. Red Cross Volunteer and Blood Donor Hero: Over the years Richard has provided life and hope to over 1,050 people who have needed blood.  Not only has Richard donated over 43 gallons of blood, he also donates platelets every two weeks.  His compassion and dedication to saving others is an inspiration to us all.

Officer Michael Rodgers, Quakertown, PA.  Law Enforcement Hero:  Officer Rodgers is a Northampton Township Police Officer. He, alongside Officer Kenney, saved a family who were inside their burning home.  While enduring heavy smoke and flames, Officer Rodgers was able to assist Officer Kenney in saving the lives of the family of three.

Crew from Engine 65 of the Nottingham Fire Department, Bensalem, PA. Fire Rescue Heroes: This group showed tremendous teamwork and bravery in firefighting and rescue operations at the Franklin Commons Apartments in Bensalem Township.  They found Mr. Patrick, who was trapped and unconscious in a rear bedroom and brought him to help and safety in very severe fire conditions.

Kathleen Marsh, Chief Executive Officer of the Lower Bucks County Chapter, said, “The Chapter is pleased to honor and salute these individuals who personify the mission of the American Red Cross which is to help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.”
